St Faith's story began in late 1800โs and continues today. We are a church neighbour that offers hospitality and participation in community.
The first church on the site was built in 1886, known as The Beach Church. It was wooden building on the corner of Shaw Ave and Hawke Street where the present church stands.
In 1909 it moved eastwards to where the church hall now stands to make way for a new, larger church. The First World War delayed the construction of the new church till 1925-26.
When the Christchurch earthquake rendered the building unsafe, what felt like a huge setback became an incredible opportunity for the re-envisioning of our beloved space.
With help from the congregations of St Andrews and St Luke's, St Faith's was able to emerge as the award winning restoration project that it is today. The church community responded with the message of โlove your neighbourโ as Godโs people and they have never looked back. The spirit of the parish is in good form and looks forward to the next 100 years of being local church in community.
Our space is open and inclusive, connecting with each other and the message of Jesus. Nurturing community life is what we believe is good for all Godโs people. It is in the DNA of our local churches in our parish - St Andrew's, St Lukeโs, and St Faith's.
